GeneriaWiki:General disclaimer

From GeneriaWiki

Unfortunately our disclaimer has been hijacked so until a new one is writen There are some general rules to follow.

1. Generia is intended, above all, to be fun and enjoyable for as many people as possible. This includes the people who put the time and effort into coding, writing quests, creating maps, drawing pictures, and - yes - even those moderating these Forums and the Chat.

2. We cannot know who is on these Forums or in Chat, therefore we cannot assume that anyone else has the same religious, political, social, moral, or educational values.

3. Similarly, because Generia is open for people of all ages to play, we cannot assume that everyone reading these Forums or in Generia Chat is any particular age.

a. Yes, the registration agreement requires users to confirm that they are over 13. However, there is no way that we, on this end, can enforce that requirement.

b. Therefore, we have to assume that children of all ages may be reading what is posted here.

c. While it's not our responsibility to parent or to cover for irresponsible parents, it is our responsibility to keep our Forum and Chat content readable and reasonable for all ages.

d. The Generia staff only moderates material on the Generia server or #Generia Chat and can only moderate when a staff member is available and actively monitoring public areas for problems.

e. Players are welcome to create and host their own Generia Forums or Chats.

f. However, any Forums other than these or any Chats other than #Generia are not moderated by Generia staff.

g. We cannot guarantee that we can remove problem posts or ban problem players within any timeframe.

4. Though Generia is free for anyone to play, it is not without cost.

a. Coding and maintaining the game take hundreds of hours of time from many highly-skilled people, people who are perfectly capable of earning large amounts of cash in the time they invest in working on this game.

b. In addition to the the value of the donated labor, hosting, server space, and bandwidth all have their price.

c. We do not ask for donations. We do not even accept donations in order to avoid biases towards major donors that occur in other games.

5. This is not a democracy. It is not even a republic.

a. When you choose to post, you are agreeing to abide by basic rules of courtesy, decency, and respect for others.

b. Having your post is deleted because you fail to grasp these basic concepts is not censorship. Censorship is an action taken by a government against its citizens. In a private setting, such as this, the managers have every right to decide what is and is not appropriate to their establishment.

c. Private businesses have the right to remove graffiti from their walls, no matter who considers such defacement "art." Similarly, the Generia Team has every right right to keep these Forums and the Generia Chat free of rude, offensive, or otherwise undesireable posts and comments.

6. Generia's managers are a private group of individuals maintaining the integrity of their product. Just because Generia and these Forums and the Chat are both free and open to the public does not make them free and open for discussion of any and all topics, much less give users the right to post whatever they want.

7. If the Generia Development Team has determined that someone has the necessary judgement and written skills to trust that person with Mod or Admin priviledges, then that Mod or Admin has the same authority as any other Mod or Admin.

8. This is not a professional game.

a. We work on this for fun, in our spare time and at our convenience, balancing families, school, and personal matters.

b. We make no profit from Generia.

c. Most of the admin staff actually loses potential earnings by contributing their time and skills to game development.

9. While all are welcome to play, there are no rights or entitlements.
